About the Session

This workshop will be on sensitive and responsible reporting of LGBTQIA+ stories. The discussion will be focused on the experiences of our reporters and editors, who have consistently engaged with LGBTIA+ communities and reported their stories through an intersectional lens.

Aimed at enhancing both understanding and coverage of queer issues, the session will also explore how LGBTQIA+ narratives are shaped and shared on social media platforms, where often unregulated and problematic content circulates widely. It will serve as a comprehensive primer for ethical, accurate, and inclusive reporting and editing of LGBTQIA+ stories.

The key focus areas would be navigating privacy and consent, the do’s and don’ts when covering queer individuals and communities, including respectful language usage, informed consent, protection of anonymity where needed, etc; maintaining intersectionality; engaging with sources in ways that build trust and ensure safety; hurdles faced while reporting the stories and how to navigate them, and so on.
